Dress code matters: when an invitation specifies traditional black tie, keep experimentation restrained. A coloured jacket is not always an appropriate substitute for classic formalwear.

Our hire collection focuses on a black shawl-lapel tuxedo and black peak-lapel suit, with professional showroom fittings and shirt and accessory options.
Hire is available through our Brisbane and Sunshine Coast showrooms. Alternative tuxedo colours are custom tailoring options, not part of the standard hire collection.

What is the difference between a tuxedo and a black suit?
A traditional tuxedo uses eveningwear details such as satin or grosgrain lapel facings and is worn with formal accessories. A black suit has a more versatile, conventional suit finish and may be suitable for events that don’t require strict black tie.
Is a shawl lapel or peak lapel more formal?
Both are accepted classic tuxedo lapels. A shawl lapel is softly rounded while a peak lapel gives a sharper, more structured look. Fit and the complete outfit matter more than choosing one over the other.
Can I wear a modern coloured tuxedo to a black-tie event?
Check the invitation. For traditional black tie, a black or midnight-blue tuxedo is the safest choice. Creative black tie or a contemporary wedding may offer room for a coloured or patterned jacket.
Can I hire a coloured tuxedo from Weyridges?
Our standard hire collection is black only: a shawl-lapel tuxedo and a peak-lapel black suit. For other colours, fabrics or bespoke styling, ask about custom tailoring.
How long does a custom tuxedo take?
Custom production is generally 3–4 weeks, but we recommend starting wedding planning 3–4 months ahead. Your final fitting should take place at least two weeks before the event to allow time for adjustments.
